Dame Cynthia Nims
Cynthia Nims has carved out a singular place in Northwest food writing, blending deep culinary knowledge with a warm, archival instinct for the stories behind what we cook. A lifelong Northwesterner, she’s spent her career illuminating the region’s seafood traditions, most recently with her Essential Shellfish Collection, a boxed set featuring her cookbooks Oysters, Crab, and Shellfish. Her work balances precision with curiosity, she’s as interested in technique as she is in the cultural threads that tie recipes to memory. In 2024 she launched Long Live the Recipe Box, a project devoted to preserving the emotional and historical richness of personal recipe collections, helping home cooks safeguard the dishes that define their families. She also writes two Substack newsletters: Seafood Savvy, where she shares deep dives into sustainable seafood and coastal cooking, and Long Live the Recipe Box, which explores the stories, people, and traditions behind treasured recipes. Nims continues to champion the idea that food is both craft and connection, and that the recipes we keep say as much about who we are as the meals we serve.

Lisa Callan
Lisa Callan is the co-founder/winemaker and driving force behind Callan Cellars, a boutique Washington winery dedicated to crafting expressive, small-lot wines that reflect both place and purpose. With a deep appreciation for the artistry and discipline of winemaking, Lisa built Callan Cellars around a simple philosophy: thoughtful farming, careful craftsmanship, and wines that bring people together.
Working closely with top vineyard sources, including sites in some of Washington’s most respected growing regions, Lisa focuses on fruit quality as the foundation of every wine. Her approach emphasizes balance, structure, and purity — allowing each varietal and vineyard to speak clearly. Production remains intentionally limited, ensuring hands-on attention at every stage, from grape selection through fermentation, blending, and aging.
At the core of Callan Cellars is a commitment to authenticity and connection. Lisa is deeply involved in all aspects of the winery, from shaping the wine portfolio to building relationships with customers and the broader wine community. Her wines are crafted to be both elegant and approachable, designed to elevate everyday moments while also rewarding deeper exploration.
The Callan Cellars portfolio showcases refined, terroir-driven wines with an emphasis on balance and drinkability. Whether enjoyed young or with some age, the wines reflect a dedication to quality, intention, and the enduring belief that great wine is ultimately about shared experience.
